Friends,
We do value your prayers, friendship, financial support &
encouragement. We need each of you!
WE HAVE A PERSONAL WORD FOR
YOU:
Before Hugh & I were married; we
were given a word that our ministries were parallel; but would, over a period of
time, converge into one united ministry. This has not only happened in the EU
Prayer /Belgium ministries and the prayer/
Intercession for & Encouragement of missionaries & other world
ministries, but in our basic understanding of prayer and a walk with God.
We believe we should use part of the monthly Praise & Prayer to share
some of the insights the Lord has given us, as well as some of the teachings I
have used through the years since the Lord spoke to me: “I want
you
to
call my people to prayer.” We will just share some of what the
Lord has taught us on our united journey with Him. Sometimes it will be a
structured Bible study; sometimes just some simple insights on prayer and a life
with God. We trust it will bless you and be a help in your life of prayer and
fellowship with God. You will find this on the back page
of each month’s Praise & Prayer Update.
FIRST OUR NEWS -
PLEASE PRAY FOR:
- Sale of our Condo in
Frederick,
MD - in God’s timing
and for His price. Daughter & family will move out of the house in
Springfield,
MO in
mid-December; so we will move
there from Frederick,
MD at that
time.
- For the
Vandolsens: Daughter, Laura,
son-in-law, Warren & children, Olivia & AJ (Aaron John), who are
going as missionaries to PADUA, ITALY to be one of the pastors of an
international church. They will move in with Warren’s mother (in
Springfield) in mid-December, and
leave for Italy in early
2008.
Wisdom in use of this unexpected
time in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area before move to
Springfield: - Ministry openings in churches
& groups - special research, besides the monthly EUReview, and other
research Hugh is doing for the AG China missions leader, and others, Praise
& Prayer Updates; time with family & friends.
PRAY
FOR EUROPE:
GREG
MUNDIS, European director of the Assemblies of God World Missions Dept; asked us
to pray for:
1)
More workers for the harvest in Europe
(Matthew. 9:37-38)
2)
Additional support for European missionaries to cover the Euro (now 1.40
US$)
3)
How to reach the many immigrants in Europe with Gospel – from Africa, Eastern
Europe, Middle East, South & Central America (He asked Hugh to do research
on this.)
PRAY
FOR EUROPEAN UNION
of PRAYER:

The
European Union of Prayer (EUoP) held its 3rd meeting in
PORTUGAL,
in September; because Portugal
holds the presidency of the EU through December, 2007. (Founded &
1st meeting in Strasbourg,
Sept, 2006; 2nd meeting in Berlin,
March, 2007) The next meeting of EUoP will be in
Slovenia
March
3-8, 2008.
Ortwin & other leaders are in
Slovenia
Sunday, October 7 through
Wednesday, October 10, checking location and other details for the next
meeting from March 3-8. PRAY for clear direction & decisions in all of
the planning; who should be invited, etc.
PRAY
FOR OUR MINISTRY TRIP TO JOIN THE EU of PRAYER IN
SLOVENIA
IN MARCH, 2008: This includes a trip to
ROME, ITALY, to meet church & prayer
leaders there, and to PADUA, where missionary daughter, Laura,
& family will be helping start an international church. Besides meeting with
church & prayer leaders there, and possibly share in the church. 1) Pray for necessary contacts with
churches & other leaders
2) for our continuing health
and strength 3) For additional finances needed to meet the Euro advance over US$
(1.42USD for 1.00 Euro, and rising!) Because of Euro rise; will need more US$
than we needed for our last trip.
ANOTHER PERSONAL
REQUEST: Up to now, we have used our
personal funds to finance all of the
US office, and other expenses related
to the EU Prayer ministry, not covered by the Missions (travel) Account in
Springfield. We expected to be able to take
care of the expenses that have built up in our 7 and ½ years of this ministry
with the sale of the condo. However, with condo prices going down; we
really need help in meeting this need. If you can help us with any part
of the minimum of $1000 a month needed; please do it. Know that
your prayer for any source of
support is appreciated. (We may also be involved with
Chinese mission support.)
NOW OUR GIFT TO YOU: HELPS
FOR A LIFE WITH GOD #1
WHAT IS A PRAYER- LIFE, or A LIFE OF
PRAYER?
A
“PRAYER LIFE” should include at least a short time of saying “Good Morning” to
the Lord – or “checking in”, each day - letting Him know we realize “without Him
we can do nothing”; but in Him we can do “all things” we wants us to do through
the day. It should also include a longer time with Him (whatever time is best
for us) when we get into His Word, and worship, praise & thank Him, as well
as bring intercessions and petitions to Him.
But,
for a really effective prayer life; we need to “pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO “pray without ceasing”?
We
believe it means: keeping up a personal
relationship with God through speaking to Him, listening to Him, learning to
know His character and will through His Word, and living daily in
moment-by-moment dependence on Him.
In
other words – it means living throughout the day in the conscious presence of
the Lord, and keeping Him a part of every activity. If we aren’t sure how to do
something, ask Him; if a beautiful sunrise or sunset blesses us, thank Him; if
the computer doesn’t seem to work right, ask Him what we should do (sometimes He
wants us to do something else for awhile).
SOME KEY SCRIPTURES FOR A LIFE OF
PRAYER:
Jesus says in JOHN
15:7: “If you abide in Me and My
words abide in you, ask what you will and it shall be done.”
In PSALM 27:4:, David
writes, “One thing have I desired of the
Lord – dwell in His courts..”. If
this is the cry of your heart, God will respond by helping you to
come close to Him – to dwell in His courts.
PSALM 50:23: “Whoever offers praise glorifies Me;
and to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God.”
The Dutch translation of this verse
says our praise prepares a highway for God to send His blessings – guidance,
protection, provision - whatever we need.
PROVERBS 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and
lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He
will direct your paths.”
If we live according to these
principles and the above Scriptures; we can claim the promise of 1 John
5:14-15: “this is the confidence that
we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And,
if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions
that we have asked of Him.”
