If millions of voices can be transmitted through wireless electronic translation, at one time, to millions of others, what makes us think that a creator God cannot easily receive our communication, and if we are “in the vine” [John 15:1-8] receive our requests and act upon them as promised in 1 Timothy 2:1-2.

1.European Union of Prayer report

The European Union of Prayer (EUoP) held its 3rd meeting from 9. – 15. Sept. 2007 following on from Strasbourg (Sept 06) and Berlin (March 07) in Carcavelos, Portugal, because Portugal holds the presidency of the EU Council at the moment. According to its four fold issues the meeting had four phases:

(1)    to generate a deeper friendship and understanding for each other there was a time of very personal sharing in the beginning;

(2)   then we prayed for the country of Portugal, the president José Sócrates and the ongoing negotiations especially for the reform treaty;

(3)   at the end there was an open prayer-evening for members of the Portuguese Church where members of the EUoP could encourage them to pray for “the kings and all in authority”, which of course was put into practice immediately afterwards.

(4)   In the final session the group took the opportunity to share what God was doing in their countries.

The next meeting of EUoP will be in Slovenia in March.

[Pray for Ortwin Schweitzer, Chairman]

1.Concern of an EU intercessor Carol Britton in Brussels

It’s such a new time here in Belgium.  Elections for the Belgian Federal government were held June 10th.  Elections in Belgium are for a political party, not for an individual as in the US. Prime Minister, Guy Verhofstad, who led the country for eight years, stated well-in-advance that he would step down from office this year. The day after the election, he gave the resignation of his government to Belgium’s King Albert.  There has been very little agreement of how this new government should be formed, and which parties would have the main lead.  One man was appointed to assess the possibilities for government coalitions, then later another man to ‘form’ the government.  But there have been huge differences between the Flemish and French-speaking parties.  King Albert, who is a Christian, is mediating and has appointed someone else to continue to “explore” the situation and bring unity.  So, Belgium stands right now with no federal government and many Belgians feel much of this instability, of no covering and the possible total split of the country.  We believe our God has His hands on this country and is covering it.  I pray that individuals will really sense and desire the Lord’s covering.  We are praying for the Lord to provide the right government that will rule with integrity, honesty, purity, and in the light.  Please join us in praying for Belgium’s government

WEEKLY WORD Couscous with lamb

24 SEPTEMBER 2007

Posters pasted around Dutch cities this month invite non-Muslims to join Muslim families for the Iftar (evening) meal during Ramadan, after the sun has set. Today that is at 19.39 in Holland. The daily fast is slowly broken with a simple snack of bread, cheese and fruit.

With hunger from a day’s fasting temporarily at bay, evening prayers are said, before the big Iftar meal is served. One poster I saw tempted passers-by with a meal of couscous and lamb.

Hospitality dinners invite non-Muslims to experience the atmosphere of Ramadan and to become acquainted with each other’s lifestyles.  Via the website www.ramadanfestival.nl , you can apply to be invited to the home of a Muslim family in their area. But you are warned to apply early as spaces are limited!

France is already preparing for its EU Presidency – scheduled for July-December 2008 – and has identified a number of key policy areas on which to focus, EurActiv France reports .

Speaking to a conference of ambassadors on August 27, Nicolas Sarkozy spoke of making Europe "an absolute priority" for France. He highlighted three major political priorities for the French Presidency – energy, the environment and immigration – and revealed his desire to strengthen the Common Foreign and Security Policy. MEPs are set to back proposals designed to allow pan-European political parties to campaign for the 2009 elections. Before the summer break, the European commission presented plans for amending a 2003 regulation on the statute and financing of political parties. A parliament source said that, if approved, the proposals would afford greater financial flexibility to parties, such as the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELDR), the Party of European Socialists (PES) and the European People’s Party (EPP). .[USE WEB LINK FOR MORE]

PanARMENIAN.Net/ French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s idea of a Mediterranean Union for countries like Turkey – which he does not want admitted to the European Union – has picked up support from Spain, whose own Euro-Mediterranean partnership has floundered, but is getting the cold shoulder in Turkey.

Spain’s Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said, “The moment has arrived ... to build a real geopolitical space through the establishment of a Mediterranean Union,” which already has been derided in Turkish newspapers as a second-class “Club Med.” .[USE WEB LINK FOR MORE]

How quickly is Europe being Islamized? So quickly that even historian Bernard Lewis, who has continued throughout his honor-laden career to be strangely disingenuous about certain realities of Islamic radicalism and terrorism, told the German newspaper Die Welt forthrightly that "Europe will be Islamic by the end of the century"  or maybe sooner. Consider some indicators from Scandinavia this past week: [USE WEB LINK FOR MORE]

6.An email from a missionary friend

On Sept. 11, 2007 there was a small, peaceful demonstration in Brussels, capital of the EU and Belgium, against the Islamisation of Europe.

First the mayor of Brussels declared it illegal because the date was symbolic and because all those who would attend were "racists." (In actuality he's afraid of upsetting his voter base: Brussels' large Muslim immigrant population.) Then the Belgian courts up to the highest in the country also declared it illegal to protest against Islamisation on 9/11 as it is too provocative to Muslims. .[USE WEB LINK FOR MORE]
