THE EUROPEAN CHURCH IN TODAY'S WORLD

How the European Christians are responding to the developing European Union and how we all can pray and help!

TARGETED PRAYER MINISTRIES

Specific prayer for specific needs
May, 2008

Our Updated Mission Statement

In answer to God's call as described below we pledged:

  • To seek God and prayerfully identify issues in the developing EU (European Union) government of Europe which may impact (negatively or positively) human rights values related to churches and other Christian organizations in Europe
  • To alert European Christians to pray and respond appropriately to these issues
  • To support the newly formed European Union Of Prayer under Ortwin Schweitzer
  • To minister to, encourage and pray with specific churches and other Christian groups in Europe - especially Belgium, the center of most of the EU activity - regarding these issues
  • To encourage the European Union of Prayer and support conferences for prayer and discussion of these issues
  • To collect information on EU issues and publish them monthly in the EURCP (European Union Review & Call to Prayer)
  • To share these concerns with those in other parts of the world who will join us and European Christians in prayer
  • To encourage evangelism, which will Scripturally meet the real needs of all of the citizens of Europe, in concert with their governments' physical and human answers
  • To continue our previous call to pray for Christian ministries world-wide
  • To seek first the Kingdom and teach others to do the same, knowing that we can then expect God's anointing, full provision and blessing
  • To show that God is a good God!

How It All Began

From her early teens, Norma B. Jenson had a burden for intercession and encouragement for Christian ministries around the world. Since the mid 1960's, when she began ministry in Belgium, she worked and helped in churches there, as well as ministering and teaching concerning prayer. In 1997, she returned from Belgium and settled in Hampton, Virginia. From there she continued her prayer and encouragement ministry through e-mail, fax and phone, with occasional trips overseas to keep up with prayer needs of countries, churches and ministries. She had a License to Minister from Elim Fellowship, Lima, NY, U.S.A.

In the fall of 1998, God laid a call to ministry in Belgium and Europe on Rev. Hugh Davis, a widower and a home mission pastor with the Assemblies of God. The emphasis was to be on the impact of the new government of the European Union on European churches and other ministries. Hugh is a retired USAF Reserve officer, experienced in political science and has been a program management specialist as well as pastor. He was led to contact Norma to discuss ministry in Europe.
Through this initial contact Norma and Hugh met, were married on June 3, 2000, and began their united ministry. (After the required study, Norma received her License to Minister from the Assemblies of God in September, 2001.)

We are now working with all the Christian churches and organisations in Europe, to encourage a unified effort to have Christian influence on the European Union. We use many sources to gather information on issues which affect the concerns of Christians in Europe and their relationship to the EU. We report that information in the EUReview & Call to Prayer (EURCP) periodic free report to a mailing list of over 400 persons in Europe. We are grateful to our prayer partners around the world.

A REVIEW OF THE MARCH, 2008 MEETING IN SLOVENIA:

March, 2008, the EUROPEAN UNION OF PRAYER met in – SLOVENIA, country of the EU PRESIDENCY.

Representatives from the 27 EU member nations joined together in intercessory prayer for the European Union and the Europeans, to help create a more perfect society for the good of all. They meet twice a year in the nation holding the presidency. Without God there is no real workable knowledge. With God , through prayer and involvement, all things were possible.

After Ortwin, EU of Prayer leader, gave an introduction of the history and background that helped to form the "Identity of Europe" - (wars that could have gone another way, The Scriptural call from Europe - "come over to Macedonia & help us" – churches in every village);

We had in-depth prayer and intercession on the following issues and areas:

  • Specific needs of each, individual country in the European Union
  • Discussion and prayer about positive and negative results for individual countries if the EU Treaty is ratified and comes into effect in 2009
  • We prayed in-depth, and waged spiritual warfare, about the implications of the statement that the EU is to be "family-friendly" (including "diversity" - meaning homosexuals, bi-sexuals, etc), and "child friendly".
  • Discussed & prayed about what some individual nations have done to undermine the Biblical pattern of families (Delete "father" and "mother" from children’s books, changed “father” & “mother” to "1st progenitor" and "2nd progenitor" in documents, including birth certificates!) PRAY ABOUT THIS!
  • About children - abortion, adoption by same-sex couples & other "groups", non-scriptural births (multiple parents), etc
  • We prayed for Christian marriages & families, especially for fathers to take their place and responsibility with teaching & training children
  • The church and its responsibility in all of these items - being what God intends for it to be - salt & light, taking & using the authority of the Holy Spirit. One of the group had a vision of the church out on a playground, with the pastor coming with beds for when they got tired of "playing church", and another vision of the church as a mighty army for the Lord – what it should be. We were encouraged to ask the Lord what our particular weapons (gifts, talents, ministries) were to be in His army.
  • One of the leadership team gave a background introduction about Islam - difference between Moslem people (whether practicing Moslems, militant Moslems or just cultural Moslems) and the spirit of Islam
  • Prayer, intercession & spiritual warfare about Islam - prayer that Christians would recognize the difference between the “spirit of Islam” and Moslems who might be open to the Gospel, and reach out to Moslem neighbors in love.
  • Kosovo situation & the Balkans: We were given background and prayed.
  • Israel: Salvation of Israel, God´s Peace Plan for the Middle East", the role of the End-time church in relation to Israel
  • Some Bible prophecies about Israel, Gaža, & Middle Eastern countries

On the last day, many of the group did a prayer walk around the castle, where the government meets, and met and prayed with area pastors and Christians in a local church in Ljubyana (Slovenia capitol) in the evening. We, for special concerns, did not join this part of the last day.

A Letter from Chairman of the EU of Prayer

To the Donators of [German translation of supporters]
Hugh and Norma Davis

10. April 2008

 Dear brothers and sisters,

I am happy to have the opportunity to write to you on behalf of Hugh and Norma.
Let me tell you frankly that I believe that the whole work of the “European Union of Prayer”
would not exist without Hugh. After years of prayer on Hugh’s and Norma’s side for Europe
God suddenly and quiet unexpectedly opened the door to start the EuoP in September 06 in
Strasbourg. It was Hugh’s initiative to invite me to Strasbourg to an English family working at
the European Parliament, which I didn’t know before. But it turned out to be God’s hour to
birth a new thing, for on my side also there was a plan to bring together European national
prayer leaders in order to form a tight network for prayer for Europe. But I didn’t know
where and how to start. So this meeting brought together ideas and people and resources so
we could start.

As I said: without Hugh this first encounter had not been come to pass.
Besides that initial part Hugh has also a continual part in our EuoP. His “European Union
Reviews and Call to Prayer” (EURCP) is a continuous help being a platform for news from
different countries and items.

We appreciate very much Hugh’s diligent research which one can rely on. We also
appreciate the way he is presenting the prayer topics making no pressure, just presenting
the issues and asking for prayer.

We as a group want to express our thankfulness for your support, because without that
these two dear ones could not come to our meetings.

And we admire how this blessed couple is willing to take upon them the burden of such long
trips and of a 12 hour program per day during the meeting.

May God keep them in good health for many more years to come. And may God bless you,
the donators who are taking part by your gifts and prayers in the Kingdom of God in Europe.

European Union of Prayer
Chairman
Ortwin Schweitzer

OUR EXPANDED MISSION - end times call to prayer (etc-p)

We had just gotten back from our mission trip to Europe - joining in the EU of PRAYER (EUROPEAN UNION OF PRAYER) conference in Slovenia & attending the International Church in Padua, where our daughter & family are working, preparing to start a similar church in Milan. The EU OF PRAYER conference was the best we have had since the Lord brought the group together two years ago.

We had been taking trips to Europe for almost 8 years (since our marriage in 2000), teaching and encouraging prayer for the EU (so the Christians would not lose freedoms & so God's purposes for this time, not those of the secular humanists, would be carried out). During this time, we had been praying for Europeans to take the responsibility of calling their own people to prayer for the EU. We are really excited about the team He brought together, and those who join with them twice a year in the capital of the country that has the EU presidency.

After Slovenia, we joined our daughter and son- in- law the Sunday morning service at ICF (International Christian Fellowship), in Padua, Italy.

In the service God moved in special ways in our hearts (I, Norma, felt like I was back with the Africans in the English cell group in Belgium and the Lord gave Hugh clarity about His call to include End Time countries and issues in our ministry) so we were not surprised when the pastor told us he would like to have us back for a prayer & EU meeting. of some kind.

When we met with the pastor during the week; we agreed it would be good for us to come to Padua for 3 days of meetings when we’re in Europe for the EU of PRAYER for meeting (October 13-18, 2008). To be up-to-date in EU issues; we will probably have the seminar in Padua after the Paris meeting.

Our new name is ”Targeted Prayer Ministries” which includes our European Union Review and Call to Prayer ministries and EndTimes Prayer Ministry for specific and targeted concerns which can significantly affect our world mission outreach. Some of these concerns are limited to mission leadership and others will include as many prayer warriors as the Lord will raise up

The new Targeted Prayer Ministries will deal with mobilizing prayer for specific concerns, in specific locations, supporting prayer needs for specific mission ministries and Christians in serious persecution. It will incorporate pre-emptive strike criteria in some area, trying to stop something that might potentially occur

This focused prayer emphasis has been too often neglected, in its place having only prophetic analysis and early warning articles of events to come.

These may be the endtimes but;
We are not be helpless victims of circumstances
We can take initiatives to delay some enemy threats and still allow God all the space He needs to do what he wants to do
He will guide us if we seek him
Our job is to keep the place workable for saving souls until He calls us home

Specific Prayer for specific events and issues brings the spiritual battle to the enemy, Satan and his spiritual forces.

We plan to produce a summary of monthly news with varied distribution and also to seek to conduct 3 day prayer meetings on Prayer as well as its role in End Times events in church and church area groups .These meetings may be in Europe, other countries and the USA.

We have been researching world news material for eight years and have developed the capacity to select articles and issues that should be of concern to Christian leaders in Europe. We have asked their specific guidance on the kinds of information which they would like to see and to urge prayer for.
Issues will be selected based upon the size of their impact on an area of Interest.

Emphasis will be given on whether there is potential transition or change that will change the environment for church life and evangelism for better or for worse in that area. Details on this issue will be collected and each issue reviewed for sensitivity and given limited distribution or will be sent out for general prayer

EndTimes parameters will be available for defining what areas we are looking at and why. It will not be our plan to compete with the many writings and revelations on the end times prophecies but rather using a generally agreed on set of parameters where most of the end times event will center. Of course the whole world will be involved in this to some degree.

We will not deal with the controversial questions such as “the rapture” or other similar details just as when and where Christians might be when the end of times comes.

We will emphasize keeping the mission work and national church evangelism going in the core areas. Our focus will be on news of events in government changes and activities which impact the life within nations and their national and international leaders. This impact may affect events and the witness of Christ in certain areas.

We will be aware Mission and national evangelical projects which are expanding or under attack and which are significant to the stability of particular regions will be observed.

Europe, Russia, the Mideast, and North Africa will have primary focus as well as requested tracking for China and India since they are significant population centers. Mission and national church leadership may ask for focus to be placed on some areas from time to time.

We will respect doctrinal priorities, and impacts on the mission field. Will have close coordination with related mission societies and national church offices..

Beside the research and distribution of news for prayer we will hold Prayer Workshops. These will be on specific subjects and on biblical guidance in understanding God’s guidance and preparing for times of prayer during these EndTimes. Norma will provide some basic sculptural guidance on prayer and answer questions. During the three sessions we will cover prayer for personal concerns, family and church concerns, and social and life and political concerns. in three two hour sessions

God answers prayer on his own terms so setting to many standards for prayer is a bit difficult, but there are ways that work better than others. By having relatively informal settings called a prayer lab. We will discuss each situation and pray with each one as time allows and learn from each other’s experience.

We will pray with those who have not received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with an evidence of a Holy Spirit given language, not related to their personal one and make sure they understand the biblical principles involved. The Lord is the one who does the baptizing so all we can do is to encourage each to enter in to his presence with an open heart and mind to Him and submitting to whatever he wants to do with your life. If you do not have the experience in the lab session we will help you understand how to be ready for the Lords blessing in this way at any time.

The basic principles of prayer which we will be emphasizing is having continuous communication with the Lord during all waking hours, conscious of doing the right thing and backing off and restarting when you have not. We will allow God to set the parameters for the prayer workshops.

All of this requires more support in prayer and gifts that we can see now. But our God has no limitations and He will provide support as required. We know He will bless those who He calls to help us. We are classified as “Short Term Missions” and our support is separate from the regular mission program. However your gifts to us to our mission account at AGWM, 1445 N Booneville Ave, Springfield MO 65802, This will provide support for our work. Contact us at Hugh or Norma Davis ptlhed@aol.com  for more information, 301 639 8717 cell phone.
