1)  GODS ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE 2003 MISSI0N TRIP

[PRAYER of thanksgiving for what God has done and where he will lead us next.]

In keeping with our theme of encouraging Christians to believe that prayer accomplishes good things, God led us in ways that made our 30 days quite successful. Through faith and prayer we;

Visited 7 churches in 4 weeks and presented our message, which was well received.

Visited with many individuals in private homes, offices and public locations with time for prayer for the European Union by these Europeans.

Attended the A-net church fellowship annual group’s leadership conference for encouragement and fellowship and shared our message (100 persons).

Attended the Pentecostal Evangelism Conference in Berlin Germany and shared our message with leadership (13,000 persons).

Prayed with a German pastor for the EU on top of the German Capital Building in Berlin.

Visited the site of the Berlin wall and the associated museum, which reminded us of the recent history of persecution for many reasons including religion in Europe. Shared with all Europeans the word we received that without prayer for the EU they would lose their religious freedom.

Supported the Belgium prayer conference for the EU and helped organize a program to mobilize Christians in Belgium for prayer for the EU and developed a template that would be spread to other European churches,

Encouraged the Belgium prayer conference to recommend the first Sunday in May would be “Prayer for the EU day”, and this was passed on to the head of the Synod which represents the government for all of the Evangelical and Pentecostal churches in Belgium (see new Prayer request following this article)

Encouraged Christians to consider God’s call to political service as a valid call of God.

Got full support from Continental Theological Seminary (CTS) for posting EU prayer notices monthly in the 3 places in the seminary and in the library, a folder for latest EU news and issues.

Will also send these EU prayer notices will also be sent to churches for posting.

Will use this CTS plan as a template for other seminaries and colleges in Europe and in the US.

Will use this as an opening for starting our mission work for encouraging churches to pray for the EU in northern France next year.

Found an opportunity to visit Spain next year to begin ministry there.

And you, as we, will also be conquerors in all that you seek to do for him if you daily stay in communication with Him.

[FOLLOW-UP REPORT AND PRAYER REQUEST]

The Synod stated that action on the EU Prayer day was best handled by the individual church groups, and so now we must go to those groups in Belgium and promote this idea. PRAY that we can get a joint  resolution out of all of these groups advocating the 1st Sunday of May as “Prayer for the EU and other governments Day”

2)  French Government Sets Up an Institute to Study Religious Factor

[PRAY that this Institute will inspire wisdom and recommendations that will meet God’s criteria for presenting the full Gospel to all of France’s citizens]

Proposed by Former Marxist Who Discovered the Importance of Religion

PARIS, JUNE 23, 2003 (Zenit.org).- The European Institute of the Sciences of Religions, created by the French government's Ministry of Education, has been inaugurated to promote the teaching of the religious dimension in the country's lay and republican schools.

3)  Europe: questions and answers

[PRAY that the increased size and strengthening of Europe through the EU will not cause it’s government to override the spiritual life and freedom of religious practice through policies of purely secular concerns.]

June 19 2003

From The Economist print edition

The proposed constitution for the European Union, which its leaders will debate this weekend, has caused controversy, confusion, hope, outrage and boredom. Here we try to clear up the confusion

What is happening and why?

Various explanations are offered for exactly why the EU needs a constitution now. Some argue that, with the Union due to swell from 15 to 25 countries next year, a radical overhaul is required. Others point out that successive treaties between the EU countries have created a mass of overlapping legal texts which need to be consolidated into a single document. Those who want an end to the growth of the EU’s powers saw the creation of a constitution as a way to draw a final line... But the federalists, who want those powers to expand, also pushed for a convention, as a further step towards the “ever closer union” promised in the 1957 Treaty of Rome, which started the process of integration.

Many federalists seem pleased with the 200-pages-plus constitution that has resulted. Some are calling it the biggest leap forward for the EU since the Treaty of Rome. But the whole thing could still be revised by the national governments of the EU, meeting in an inter-governmental conference (IGC) beginning in October.

Is this the creation of a European state?

Tricky. Eurosceptics, who like to tick off all the different ways in which the EU is acquiring the characteristics of a state, certainly have some new things to add to their list. Even before the convention, the EU had a flag, an anthem, a currency, a central bank, a supreme court, a parliament, a president (of the European Commission), a euro100 billion ($117 billion) budget and a nascent military force. The convention has now proposed that it should have a constitution, a formal legal personality, a bill of rights (the Charter of Fundamental Rights), new powers over criminal law and immigration, a foreign minister and another president (of the European Council). There is also quite a big expansion of the EU’s power to make legislation by majority vote, and therefore further erosion of national sovereignty.

On the other hand, in some respects the constitution is creating the form of state institutions without providing the substance. Thus the so-called foreign minister has no power to make policy over the heads of national governments, who retain vetoes over the making of EU foreign policy and control of their own armed forces. The EU will not be able to raise taxes nor, probably, harmonise them either. Thus two of the central features of a state—the power to raise taxes and to go to war—remain outside the grip of “Brussels”.

Isn’t the very creation of a constitution massively significant in itself?

Arguably. In the words of one of the convention’s most senior members, “What we are doing is moving off a treaty track and on to a constitutional track, and we will now roll forward on that track.” But even this senior figure admits to doubts, because in fact this is a “constitutional treaty”, which, like any other international treaty, has to be ratified by every national government. And the federalists seem to have lost a crucial battle on future constitutional changes. They wanted all such changes to be made by majority if four-fifths of states agreed. But this move was blocked. All future constitutional changes will still have to be made by unanimous agreement of all the countries of the EU, although they would no longer have to be ratified by national parliaments. So this still looks more like a treaty between states than a constitution for a single state.

4) Pat Cox, President of the European Parliament – Europe’s second renaissance

[PRAY (again) that the increased size and strengthening of Europe through the EU will not cause it’s government to override the spiritual life and freedom of religious practice through policies of purely secular concerns.]

EurActiv 6233 Date: 19/06/2003

In short:

Parliament's President Cox is convinced that the 21st century would see Europe's second renaissance, when following the consolidation of a process of unification, the EU will deliver on jobs, peace and stability and enhance the living standards and quality of life of all its people

5) Foreign Minister of Italy Insists That Euro Text Mention Christianity

[PRAY that the foreign minister will have the right kind of influence on the writers of the EU constitution that God will be able motivate them to write what He wants put in that document.]

http://zenitenglish@zenit.org/english/

Summary

ROME, JUNE 25, 2003 (Zenit.org). - The Foreign Minister of Italy says he will insist that the preamble of the European Constitution make reference to Christianity.

In statements published Tuesday by the ANSA agency, Franco Frattini said the draft of the Constitutional Treaty "makes reference to many values and principles." He believes it is possible to reconcile the principle of separation of church and state, "which is one of the principles of democracy, with the values of Christianity, which represent a great patrimony of the history of humanity."

"I think that both things can coexists very well," Frattini said. He added that he is "neither optimistic nor pessimistic about the possibility of achieving consensus on the mention of Christianity in the future Magna Carta."

Italy will assume the European Union's rotating presidency next semester.

6) Nations Debate on God in EU Constitution

[PRAY (again) that the national government  ministers will have the right kind of influence on the writers of the EU constitution that God will be able motivate them to write what He wants put in that document.]

By PATRICK QUINN .c The Associated Press

PORTO CARRAS, Greece (AP) - Italy and three other nations at the European Union summit pushed Friday to reopen a contentious debate about mentioning God in the EU's new constitution. British Prime Minister Tony Blair, meanwhile, promised to block attempts to use the charter to transform Europe into a ``federal superstate.''

As riot police used tear gas and clubs to disperse protesters, the assembled EU leaders also acknowledged the importance of relations with the United States and endorsed a common strategy for dealing with global security threats, including terrorism and weapons of mass destruction.

Former French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing, chairman of the constitutional convention, presented the EU leaders with a draft charter hammered out by his commission over more than a year. He warned leaders against wholesale changes in the draft, which could unravel hard-fought compromises over the text.

7)  Future members agree to comply with EU position on International Criminal Court

[PRAY that EU laws and policies over EU member nations will be morally and spiritually correct and that the judges on this court will be men and women of God.]

In   http://www.euractiv.com/cgi-bin/cgint.exe/445350-290?204&OIDN=1505786&-home=home

Date: 25/06/2003 08:30

Short:

The 10 future Member States and two associated countries have agreed to put their national policies in line with the EU's position on the International Criminal Court.

Brief news:

The 10 future Member States, as well as Romania, Bulgaria and members of the European Economic Area (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland) have declared that they share the objectives of the Common Position on the International Criminal Court (ICC) adopted by the External Relations Council on 16 June 2003. They will ensure that their national policies conform to that common position.

On 16 June, the External Relations Council adopted a Common Position on the ICC, with the objective of supporting the effective functioning of the Court and advancing universal support for it by promoting the widest possible participation in the Rome Statute. The new position strengthens the EU's commitment to the ICC, based on the initial position from June 2002. It affirms that the EU and its Member States will follow closely developments concerning effective co-operation with the Court in accordance with the ICC's statute.

The issue is to be discussed at the EU-US Summit in Washington on 25 June.

A draft of the European Union constitution unveiled earlier this month contained no mention of Christianity despite heavy lobbying from the pope and Christian Democrat parties.[See full Article on Link]

HOW TO PRAY FOR THE EU

  1. Know God is expecting you to ask so He can answer. Pray daily.
  2. Know as much as you can about people and situations; tell God you know He understands, but you are asking as He told you to do. Ask Him to enlighten you as necessary. Pray specifically when you know.
  3. Thank God that he will give the right answer to the issue at the right time.
  4. Ask God to reveal Himself to as many in the EU as possible through witness or revelation.
  5. For those in rebellion against His Word, ask God to change or confuse these minds. Don’t name names because you may not know what you think you know. God does know.
